Bible study helps us better know Jesus
If you are anything like me you grew up loving everything about Jesus, but you never really read his book…. I tried this bible study program and I can guarantee it will help you read the bible more than you ever have! I would use these to run bible studies at the parish. My wife and I also use them for our private bible studies with our teenagers.
St. Jerome said: “Ignorance of scripture is ignorance of Christ”. How many of us can say we dive into the bible and read it? Our protestant brothers and sisters are vastly more familiar with the bible than we are. While we know the traditions of the Church we are not real good on the reading part. What if we knew the traditions and the words of scripture! Talk about well rounded!
A Program helps you stay focused
You don’t necessarily need a program to follow you can simply pick up the bible pick a book from it and begin to go verse by verse and discuss it. It is easier if you have never done a study to get a program to follow and let that be your guide. I tend to get over zealous and read too much at a time and then overwhelm my self with the amount I have given myself to look into. The Ignatius Bible study we recommend, located on the right side of the home page , is a really great system to not only learn scripture, but to appreciate its richness. I have also included some of their options at the bottom of this post.
Like I said you don’t absolutely need it, but it helps to guide and and keep you focused. It you do decide to get them here they have been offering a 15% off deal. Give it a shot and see what you think. My family is getting ready to buy the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John, and Revelations! Can’t wait to see how this one goes, some of my favorite books of the bible! Normally, the wife chooses but this time I got to!
The USCCB often times speaks of the Gospel of Matthew being a great teaching Gospel! What can you learn from it?
You don’t have to wait to go to one at your parish you can have one in your home. Invite neighbors over, or family. Have a group of friends that never seem to be able to make it to studies at the parish too? Ask them and turn it into an evening of study, fellowship and snacks! It doesn’t have to be some boring stuffy event. Make it a time to laugh and get to know each other in a prayerful manner, learning all about Salvation! You can also use this as my wife and I do, as great way to get the teens, once a week to sit down and have snacks and study scripture. We try to make it a fun time so they realize it doesn’t have to be boring, or that blah feeling. Scripture is amazing and we should treat it as such and be energized by it!
Dive in see what you think and start to learn the word of God in a whole new way! Blessings on your studies.
